In a sea of crystals with each offering its own unique service, there is one that stands out so big and it’s shungite. This is such an amazing stone and it’s a quintessential stone for anchoring your light! It comes from the Karelia region in Russia and is a rare mineral that has been around for 2 billion years known for its ability to heal diseases and purify water. It contains some unique features that make it especially powerful for protection, grounding, balancing, healing, aligning with your truth, purifying and detoxifying the body, mind and soul.
So let’s dive in to these powerful attributes of shungite and how you can incorporate it into your own life to optimize wellbeing.

Protection
We are constantly surrounded by technology - cell phones, computers, televisions, wifi, etc, all which put out electromagnetic frequencies (EMFs) that could be harmful to our health. What makes shungite so unique is how it is formed. All crystals derive their unique energy signature from their molecular structure. Shungite is formed of hollow molecular carbon cages called ‘fullerenes’ that absorb and neutralize EMFs and other negative energies giving it its unique healing and protective properties. Shungite is the only mineral (with the exception of a few meteorites) that is comprised of this unique carbon crystalline formation. The discovery of fullerenes was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1998.
To use shungite for EMF protection within your home environment, you can place it near your electronics such as TVs, microwaves, wireless router, cell phones, etc. It will not interfere with the operations of any of your devices; however, it will help to neutralize those frequencies offering energetic protection for you!
You can also wear shungite as jewelry or carry it in your pocket to directly protect your aura. You can further infuse it with your intention to create an energetic shield of protection.
Anchoring the Light / Alignment
Shungite helps to cleanse and align the molecules within the body to move into a higher resonant frequency. It helps one to release negative thought patterns and dissolves disharmony. It is especially supportive the first, second and third chakras promoting balance, clarity and healing within the lower, denser bodies to prepare one for greater spiritual work. As the physical body moves into greater alignment, it creates space for the lightbody to expand into the physical. This expansion of spiritual light enables us to move into a greater place of truth, unity and wholeness. It fosters the of integration of body, mind and soul.

Truth
Because of how shungite integrates more spiritual light within the physical reality, it can become difficult to be in the presence of anything dishonest. This internal alignment creates such truth that it can be uncomfortable to be around anything untrue. In this way, shungite helps with a realignment process to that which is true – relationships, careers, spiritual paths, beliefs, etc. You naturally move away from what doesn’t feel good, right and true within your system and your move toward the frequencies that are a vibrational match for your expanded light.
Grounding
Shungite is a grounding stone that helps us become centered, balanced and connected with the Earth’s energy, regardless of what is going on around us. It is must-have for people who deal with uncontrollable emotions, as well as any form of anxiety or depression. It helps to detoxify the body and mind of physical, mental and emotional toxins.
If you feel that unhealthy thoughts and emotions are taking a toll on your physical body, try adding shungite into your meditation practice. Envision yourself sending your roots deep down into the core of the earth to be grounded, sending down any negative energy to be neutralized and transformed. Feel your body become lighter in the process.
Purification
Shungite is purifying to the energetic body, cleansing our aura and rebalancing our field. However, its purification abilities are most widely known for purifying water.
Shungite has also been proven to purify water due to its ability to absorb chemical pollution and heavy metals (removing phenol, iron, manganese, chlorine, nitrates, nitrites, bacteria and microorganisms). According to a Russian study, shungite is 30 times more effective than activated carbon in removing free radicals from water, creating a water that supports a healthy immune system. It kills off bacteria in water along with pesticides and heavy metals, and it fills it with oxygen, magnesium, calcium and essential minerals to purify it and promote greater health. It may help alleviate symptoms of conditions like asthma, cardiovascular disease, allergies, diabetes, and more.
To leverage the purification abilites of shungite, try putting it in your bath water, in your drinking water, in your Keurig or use a shungite tile to place your water cup on directing the shungite with intention to purify the water. Note if you are using unpolished shungite, there will be black residue of carbon particles in the water. You can rinse the water thoroughly until the water becomes more clear to avoid consuming notable amounts of carbon.
Shungite baths can be extremely health promoting to detoxify and purify the body, as well as alleviate stress, pain, and disharmony within the physical body. Shungite contributes to the restoration of cartilage surfaces in the joints and spine, reduces pain and increases mobility of the affected joints.
Types of Shungite
It is important to note that there are two main grades of shungite. Elite or noble shungite is the highest grade and contains at least 98 percent carbon making it both extremely rare and pure. This form also contains the most amount of fullerenes making it the most effective form. Because it contains so much carbon, it cannot be shaped and formed. So you will only find it in its raw form which is a shiny, blackish silver color with a metallic luster. Elite shunite is very expensive and is not as widely available as the other grade.
The second grade of shungite known as black shungite contains around 50-70 percent carbon and thus can be shaped and formed. Black shungite can be round as spheres, pyramids, rods, plates, tumbles, merkabas and other shapes. This is also an effective way to work with shungite because you can work with the energetic properties of the shapes to direct the energy.
This form can also be polished or unpolished. Unpolished will appear black and powdery and will leave traces of black carbon on your fingers and anything it touches. You can wash it with water to remove most of the excess power from the stone. Polished shungite will not have the same amount of black residue and will take on more of a luster.
